Shawn has a BSc from the University of Queensland, an MSc in Informatics (focusing on machine learning and data) from the University of Edinburgh, and a PhD from Massey University. His research interests include programming languages, program analysis, and software security and quality.
Before transitioning to academia, Shawn worked in the financial sector. He has experience working on databases for econometric and regulatory purposes and has provided technical leadership on a World Bank-funded project to modernise payment systems in the Maldives.
Shawn began teaching in 2018 and has taught full-time at UCOL since 2023. He is passionate about creating an engaging and collaborative learning environment, fostering mutual understanding and shared progress with ākonga.
Shawn participates in UCOL’s Te Atakura program, which he credits with enhancing his teaching abilities through reflective practice and mentorship. He enjoys the close-knit relationships between students and faculty at UCOL.
