The forestry industry in New Zealand is crying out for skilled workers, and offers a variety of highly secure and satisfying jobs. The UCOL Te Pūkenga U-Skills Academy Forestry Programme is offered in collaboration with industry partners. You’ll learn onsite, with this programme covering forestry operations and the environment,  health and safety, and emergency procedures.

 Career & Study Outcomes

Successful completion of the UCOL Te Pūkenga Academy Forestry Programme is the first step in a journey. Equipped with new skills and a taste for the industry, you will know the basics and be ready to start a career in forestry.

 Course Information

This programme comprises 29 Credits.

Unit Standard 17769 (Level 2) (Version 6) (5 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of general health, safety, and environmental requirements in forestry.

Unit Standard 22995 (Level 2) (Version 5) (5 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of employment in a forestry operation.

Unit Standard 1227 (Level 2) (Version 8) (5 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of plantation forest harvesting.

Unit Standard 27963 (Level 2) (Version 3) (5 Credits)
Demonstrate foundation knowledge of plantation forest establishment and silviculture operations.

Unit Standard 6916 (Level 2) (Version 9) (5 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of the rules relating to chainsaw use.

Unit Standard 6400 (Level 3) (Version 6) (2 Credits)
Manage first aid in an emergency situation.

Unit Standard 6401 (Level 2) (Version 6) (1 Credits)
Provide First Aid.

Unit Standard 6402 (Level 1) (Version 8) (1 Credits)
Provide First Aid.

 Domestic Entry Requirements

For year 11 - 13 secondary school learners (NZ Citizens, permanent residents or learners with an applicable visa allowing them to be enrolled in a secondary school).

Applications are to be received from participating schools.

Recommended school subjects include:
