Deciding to study the Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) was easy for Karley as she had always had an affinity for technology.
“Studying ICT at UCOL was a no-brainer due to it being more hands-on, giving me experience that is needed in the industry.”
Karley started with the
NZ Certificate in IT Essentials at UCOL before undertaking the degree. There, she discovered that she wanted to go into network engineering and security.
A highlight for Karley was the third-year internship. During her final semester, she did an internship at Whanganui High School and says it helped solidify her passion for IT. Her internship included working on a couple of network related projects for the school, which she says, gave her a valuable insight into how a project works from start to finish.
“Experiencing what the IT industry is like and dealing with real everyday issues expanded my knowledge and troubleshooting skills. This industry experience was instrumental in getting the job I now have at TVNZ as a Service Centre Analyst.”
