This five day course is open to those with previous shearing experience in the industry. The course will cover instruction and practical training in comb selection, machine and hand-piece maintenance, grinding combs and cutters, and a high level of instruction on the pattern to help improve quality and tallies.

 Career & Study Outcomes

Candidates will understand health and safety, environmental and quality requirements of shearing on rural properties.

You will acquire skills and knowledge sought after by the regional shearing industry.

 Domestic Entry Requirements

No prior academic qualification is required; however, the participants must be physically fit and be 18 years old or over.

A verified copy of your identification

You should supply a verified copy of any of the following documents:
  • Current driver license
  • Current New Zealand passport
  • Birth certificate
  • Whakapapa statement

 Advice & Guidance

Meals on the weekend are self-catered at your own cost, meals during weekdays are free. Accommodation at Taratahi, including on the weekends, is free. Alternatively, participants are welcome to go home for the weekend and return by 8 am Monday.

UCOL provides personal protective wear, clothing and equipment required for the course. Also, the consumable teaching resources; course notes; transportation (field visits).
