Test Format

You’ll be tested on your reading, listening, speaking and writing, and will combine all these skills to summarise, evaluate and synthesise information.

The test will take place via Internet at UCOL Palmerston North. It will comprise:

  • 60 - 80 minutes of reading (read passages, then respond to questions)
  • 60 -90 minutes of listening (listen to brief lecturers or a classroom discussion, then respond to questions)
  • 20 minutes of speaking (using a microphone to speak about familiar topics, and also discuss material you read about and listened to)
  • 50 minutes of writing (read a passage, listen to a recording and then type your response)

You can rest assured that the test is secure. It uses biometric voice identification software, and all test participants must show a valid and acceptable ID with your name, photograph and signature. In addition, security features such as encrypted test delivery ensure your information is protected.
