Are you interested in design relating to mechanical engineering and construction? This is a specialist area growing at a fast rate with new technologies constantly being developed. UCOL's Academy Applied Technology and Design Programme gives you the opportunity to work towards NCEA Level 3 whilst exploring the technical skills required to design a product and see it through to completion. 

You will complete a range of theory and practical activities, and have the opportunity to learn more about:

  • Computer aided design software
  • Mechanical design
  • Construction design

This programme comprises 31 Credits.

Unit Standard 24362 (Level 3)(Version 1) (3 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of working drawings and specifications for building work.

Unit Standard 24378 (Level 3)(Version 1) (4 Credits)
Perform building calculations.

Unit Standard 2432 (Level 2)(Version 8) (3 Credits)
Manually construct plane geometric shapes for engineering.

Unit Standard 2433 (Level 2)(Version 8) (6 Credits)
Produce simple engineering component drawings using CAD software.

Unit Standard 21910 (Level 3)(Version 4) (5 Credits)
Interpret mechanical engineering drawings.

Unit Standard 2436 (Level 3)(Version 8) (5 Credits)
Create three-dimensional engineering models using CAD software under supervision.

Unit Standard 21211 (Level 3) (Version 2) (4 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of, and methods used in weatherproofing buildings.

Unit Standard 13015 (Level 3) (Version 3) (1 Credits)
Demonstrate knowledge of construction subcontractors’ work and main contractors’ responsibilities.

 Domestic Entry Requirements

For year 11 - 13 secondary school students (NZ Citizens, permanent residents or students with an applicable visa allowing them to be enrolled in a secondary school).

Applications are to be received from participating schools.
