Dr Mary-Ellen Gordon
, Senior Lecturer of Information Systems at Victoria University of Wellington, will share ideas on “Using Data to Drive Decisions: What New Zealand and Silicon Valley have in common.” She will draw on common challenges and opportunities the New Zealand public sector and US technology companies face in maximizing the value of the data, and the challenges and opportunities that are unique to each domain.
With a Phd, Master of Business Administrations and Bachelor in Marketing, Mary-Ellen founded and led the team that implements Apple-branded surveys to support marketing of all Apple products world-wide. She also headed research at Flurry, a San Francisco start up that was acquired by Yahoo, where she mined insights from app data collected from more than a billion smartphones and tablets each month.
On top of this, Mary-Ellen has published multiple data-intensive academic research papers on topics including Internet marketing, marketing education, and strategic alliances. This work has been cited both nationally and internationally.
