UCOL has had a solid year, with 6,500 students studying at the regional polytechnic throughout the year and an anticipated financial surplus of around $900,000. UCOL Chief Executive, Dr Lynn, said “this is an outstanding achievement and as a strong, local regional polytechnic, UCOL is doing its job well. We had 450 more students in 2018, and doubled our financial surplus from 2017.”

UCOL has also achieved its target of international students, with 350 students choosing to study at UCOL from 53 different countries. “The signs are that this will continue in 2019, with an increased number of international students applying for study next year. English Language, Nursing and Graduate Diplomas in Business and Information Communications Technology are particularly popular.”

2019 is shaping up to be bigger and brighter for UCOL on the back of a strong end of year financial position, increasing domestic and international student applications, a continued focus on students, pastoral care, quality teaching, and new investment planned.

“Signals are that 2019 is off to a good start, for example applications for enrolment are higher than the last three years at the same point, our Enrolment Centres are busy and the processing team have extra help. Applications turn into enrolments when all documentation is complete and students confirm their offer of enrolment, with most classes starting in mid-February.”

“We have new investment planned to back up the vision of a bigger, better, brighter UCOL. UCOL’s funding from Government has been confirmed via the Tertiary Education Commission, and we are working on establishing Centres of Vocational Excellence and industry-responsive micro-credentials. UCOL is well placed to continue to lead strong regional vocational education and training.”
