UCOL hosted a delegation from Hubei Science and Technology College (HSTC). HSTC is a public vocational college based in Hubei Provence, south of Shanghai.

The College has 10,000 full-time students and are classed as a ‘model’ vocational institution by Chinese Ministry of Education, which gives them access to special funding streams for key projects, including internationalisation. Their key areas of expertise are technology, particularly in the areas of e-commerce, cloud computing and virtual reality, as well as value-add manufacturing and hospitality and tourism. The college runs 140 programmes, partnering with a number of multi-national organisations including ZTE and Huawei.

The delegation was hosted by Dr Lynn, and included a tour of the Palmerston North Campus, and a high-level discussion to establish a relationship and discover opportunities to collaborate.

The delegation were interested in gaining an understanding of the tertiary education system in New Zealand, and UCOL’s strong links to industry through the academic staff.  UCOL was the only Institute of Technology and Polytechnic in New Zealand to be visited by HSTC.
