UCOL's internationalisation strategy has taken a step forward with a recent visit led by Prof Xie Huaqing, Vice President of Shanghai Polytechnic University (SSPU), who visited UCOL's Palmerston North and Whanganui campuses with a delegation of five senior colleagues.

SSPU, founded in 1960, is widely regarded as one of the most internationalised vocational institutions in Zhejiang province with over 80 international partnerships.

During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between UCOL's Chief Executive Leeza Boyce and Prof Xie Huaqing. The relationship is also SSPU's first relationship with a New Zealand tertiary institution.

According to Dr Arthur Chin, UCOL's Executive Director for Business Development, the visit aimed to develop academic exchanges in the areas of creative arts, business and languages. Dr Chin also added that "UCOL plans to send English language teachers to SSPU for the delivery of English language training to SSPU students in the near future. This will enable SSPU graduates to articulate into UCOL's bachelor programmes within the next 3 years".

The delegation also took the opportunity to attend UCOL's graduation in Whanganui, where they had the chance to take part and witness in the celebrations of our graduates. While in Whanganui the delegation also visited New Zealand Glassworks, and in Palmerston North they were given a tour of the City Council chambers by Palmerston North City Council's international manager Toni Grace.
