Scaffolding company Scafit Limited has won the inaugural UCOL Construction and Manufacturing Award at the Manawatū Business Awards.

The awards were presented at a dinner at the Awapuni Racecourse last week, with comedian Jeremy Corbett acting as the host.

Scafit Limited beat out other finalists OBO and Refresh Renovations Manawatū to claim the UCOL Construction and Manufacturing Award.

The judges looked at a number of business discipline areas including governance and strategy, business planning, health and safety, human resource management, marketing, quality and systems, and financial performance.

Scafit Limited Managing Director David Crowley said he was proud for his team to be recognised.

“I’m ecstatic for our team to celebrate the hard work, initiative and continual improvement that they have been making on the business.”

Mr Crowley felt that Scafit’s focus on customer service and building a positive team culture played a big part in landing them the award.
“We provide scaffolding but really we are a service business and it’s all about the people. We have a strong awareness about the importance of the customers’ needs, but also the awareness that we are a team delivering above our customers’ expectations.”
“Our culture and values are essential for a positive team environment and individual performance.  We train our team in not only scaffolding & safety skills, but also soft skills relating to personal wellbeing, health, and being a professional.” UCOL Executive Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Technologies Dr Nicky Van der Bergh said that it was an exciting and encouraging time being part of the Business Awards.

“Being invited into a business to scrutinise its operation, strategy, leadership, finances and health and safety is no easy decision for any business owner. However, all the participants in this category willingly did so.

“Manawatū can rest assured our businesses, small and large, are of a very high standard. UCOL is proud of all the participants who entered in this sponsored category and it was great to celebrate with the team from Scafit.  Well done Nicky, David and the team.”
